Zones are allotted by the forest department at the time of booking, not chosen freely on the day. Here's the general character of each.
Rolling buffer terrain, quieter routes.
Rocky ground, known for leopard activity.

Carry the same original ID proof (Aadhaar, Passport, Driving License) used during booking. Foreigners must carry a passport.
Report at the boarding point 60 minutes before the safari. Late arrivals may forfeit their seat without refund.
The park remains closed every Wednesday for wildlife rest. No safaris are conducted on this day.
The park is closed during July–September for monsoon. Safaris resume from October 1st each year.
Permits are non-refundable once issued. Cancellations before permit confirmation are fully refunded.
Wear neutral-colored clothing (olive, beige, brown). Avoid bright colors and strong perfumes. Carry a hat and sunscreen.
As per the current Ranthambore safari policy, 20 jeeps (6-seater) and 20 canter vehicles (20-seater) are permitted to enter the park per shift. Safari tours operate in two shifts: morning and afternoon.
Zone allotment, driver assignment, and naturalist guide allocation are handled entirely by forest officials through an automated computerised system. This ensures every safari vehicle is distributed evenly across all zones on a random basis.
Online bookings are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Full payment is required in advance to confirm your safari. The vehicle is allotted on the day of the safari, and fees for confirmed seats — whether Jeep or Canter — are non-refundable and non-transferable.
If your safari cannot be booked due to technical error or seat unavailability, the entire amount will be refunded to your bank account and you will be notified accordingly.
The park opens approximately half an hour after sunrise and closes half an hour before sunset. Since sunrise and sunset times shift with the seasons, entry and exit timings change accordingly throughout the year.
Each safari is limited to a maximum of three and a half hours. Weekends and holidays see heavy demand, so advance booking for both safaris and hotels is strongly recommended.
