Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common queries about booking a Ranthambore safari and planning your visit.

Safari Booking

How early should I book a safari?
Permits are limited per zone and sell out fast during peak months (November to February). Booking 30 to 60 days ahead is recommended. We can also check for last-minute cancellations or tatkal permits if you need a spot sooner.
What ID do I need to carry?
A government-issued photo ID for each visitor is required. Indian nationals can use Aadhaar, PAN card, Voter ID, or driving license. Foreign nationals must carry a passport. ID is checked at the forest entry gate before boarding.
Can I select which zone to visit?
You can mention a preferred zone at the time of booking. However, the forest department assigns zones based on real-time availability when the permit is issued. We will confirm the allotted zone once the permit is secured.
What are the safari hours?
Safaris run twice each day — a morning slot starting around 6:00–7:00 AM and an afternoon slot starting around 2:00–3:00 PM. Exact timings shift with the season. Each ride lasts roughly 3 to 3.5 hours.
Jeep vs Canter — what is the difference?
A Jeep (Gypsy) seats up to 6 and offers a private, nimble ride — good for photographers and small groups. A Canter is an open bus that seats up to 20 at a lower per-person cost, ideal for families. Both access the same zones with equal tiger sighting chances.
Is the park open all year?
No. The park closes for the monsoon, usually from July to September. Safaris run from October to June. Also note that Zones 1–5 are closed on Wednesdays and Zones 6–10 are closed on Tuesdays.

Safari Experience

How likely is a tiger sighting?
Ranthambore has among the highest tiger sighting rates in India. Over 2–3 safaris during peak season (November–February), the probability is around 70–80%. Our guides know the zones and waterhole patterns well.
What other animals can I expect to see?
Apart from tigers, the park has leopards, sloth bears, hyenas, jackals, crocodiles, sambar deer, spotted deer, nilgai, wild boar, langurs, and over 300 bird species including eagles, kingfishers, storks, and migratory waterfowl.
Can I take photos during the safari?
Yes. Phone cameras are allowed. For professional gear (DSLRs with large telephoto lenses), a camera fee of about ₹250 is payable at the forest gate. Usage of phones during the ride is restricted per forest department rules.
What should I wear on safari?
Wear neutral colours like khaki, olive, beige, or brown. Avoid bright shades and strong perfumes. Mornings can be cool, so a light jacket is useful. Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen are recommended.

Travel & Logistics

How do I get to Ranthambore?
The nearest railway station is Sawai Madhopur, about 11 km from the park. It has direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Agra. The closest airport is Jaipur International Airport, roughly 180 km away. We can arrange pick-up from Jaipur as part of your booking.
Where can I stay near the park?
There are many options — budget guesthouses, mid-range hotels, and luxury resorts near Ranthambore. If you book a package with us, AC accommodation is included. For standalone stays, we can recommend places based on your budget.
Is food provided during the safari?
If you book a tour package, meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/coffee) are included as per the itinerary. For standalone safari bookings, meals are not included but are available at your hotel or nearby restaurants.
What time should I reach the meeting point?
Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled safari time. Vehicles leave promptly, and forest department rules do not allow late entry. If you are staying at a hotel, the pickup time will be communicated in advance.

Payment & Cancellation

What does the safari fee cover?
The fee includes vehicle hire, guide services, forest entry permit, and applicable taxes. Camera fees (₹250) and hotel transfers are quoted separately and payable directly at the gate or to the driver.

For safari permits: 75% refund if cancelled more than 7 days before, 50% refund 3–7 days before, no refund under 3 days. For tour packages: 80% refund 60+ days ahead, sliding down to no refund within 10 days. Full details on our Refund Policy page.
